Zhangzhou is four trips in one province corner: the old city and snacks, Nanjing and Hua'an Tulou, Dongshan Island, and the volcanic coast with Zhaojiabao or Sanping Temple. It is close to Xiamen, but that does not mean the routes are close to each other. Do not compress Xiamen, tulou, Dongshan, Volcanic Island and Zhangzhou Ancient City into one day.

Old City and Tulou

Zhangzhou Ancient City is good for half a day or a full day. Hong Kong Road, Taiwan Road, Confucian Temple, old arcades, Fucheng lanes, craft displays and snacks are still tied to local life. Photograph with restraint and do not treat the old city as a studio. Try lor mee, hand-grabbed noodles, oyster omelet, sigua soup dessert, roasted-meat zongzi, five-spice rolls, mochi and tofu noodles in small portions, checking hygiene and prices.

Nanjing Tulou includes Yunshuiyao, Tianluokeng, Hekeng and other clusters. Hua'an Tulou and Eryi Lou have a different architectural character and are worth a separate route if you care about murals, structure and clan spaces. Tulou are World Heritage and living villages. Follow ticket, shuttle, guide, drone, night-tour and interior rules; do not knock walls, touch timber, climb closed stairs or photograph private rooms.

Islands, Coast and Mountains

Dongshan Island needs tide and weather checks. Nanmen Bay, Jinluan Bay, Maluan Bay, Sufeng Mountain road, Tongling Town and Fengdongshi Rock can fill two days. Fishbone Shoal, beach vehicles, sailing, diving, sea fishing and sea trips depend on tide, wind, lifeguards and operator qualifications. In typhoon season, switch to Tongling old town, Gu Wenchang memorial sites, old streets and indoor meals early.

Volcanic Island is for coastal volcanic landforms, sea-eroded features and boardwalks; do not assume Linjinyu or Nanding Island boats are running. Zhaojiabao is a fortified village and heritage space, not a prop. Sanping Temple and Lingtong Mountain need temple etiquette, road and weather checks.

Logistics

Use Zhangzhou Station for the city, Nanjing Station for tulou transfers and Yunxiao Station for Dongshan. For tulou, island and mountain routes, confirm return transport, driver terms, parking, lodging cancellation and seafood receipts. Each day should have one main area and one flexible backup.
