Qingyuan is not one compact mountain resort. Its rafting valleys, Yingde karst country, Lianzhou caves, Liannan Yao villages, river cruises, and hot-spring areas are spread across northern Guangdong. A weekend should stay in one cluster; a three- or four-day trip can link two or three clusters with a car or a carefully confirmed driver.
Who This Trip Suits
- Weekend travelers from Guangzhou, Foshan, Shenzhen, or Dongguan who want one rafting, hot-spring, or countryside base.
- Families who can choose caves, villages, or hot springs instead of high-risk outdoor activities.
- Drivers and small groups building a slow Yingde-Lianzhou-Liannan circuit.
- Travelers who are willing to cancel a canyon, boat, or mountain day when rain, lightning, typhoon, flood, or maintenance warnings appear.
It is less suitable for travelers who want to combine Gulong Gorge, Yingxi Peak Forest, Lianzhou Underground River, and Millennium Yao Village in a single weekend. They are separate planning zones.
Pick a Cluster Before Booking
Qingcheng and Qingxin: Gulong Gorge, Huangteng Gorge, Bijia Mountain, nearby hot springs, and the Beijiang riverfront. Choose one major paid activity per day.
Yingde: Yingxi Peak Forest around Jiulong and Huanghua, cave or lake attractions such as Baojing Palace, tea-country stops, and rural lodging. This cluster works best with a car and an overnight stay.
Lianzhou and Liannan: Lianzhou Underground River, Huangchuan Three Gorges, Lianzhou city, and Millennium Yao Village. Add a Liannan night if the village is important; the county transfers make a same-day return fragile.
Yangshan or hot-spring recovery: use these as an alternative to another adrenaline activity, not as filler after a long drive.
Two, Three, and Four Days
Two Days: One Rafting or Rest Cluster
Day 1: arrive in Qingyuan and choose Gulong Gorge or Huangteng Gorge only after confirming current operation. Allow time for entry, equipment, changing, washing, and recovery. Stay in Qingcheng, Qingxin, or near the chosen operator. Day 2: choose a Beijiang or Feixia-area visit, a verified hot spring, a gentle countryside stop, or early return. Do not place another remote county attraction before the drive home.
Three Days: Yingde and Lianzhou
Day 1: travel to Qingyuan or Yingde and settle into one base. Day 2: Yingxi Peak Forest and one cave, village, or tea-country activity. Day 3: Lianzhou Underground River or Huangchuan Three Gorges, not both if the road and sailing timetable create a tight return. Add another night if Millennium Yao Village matters.
Four Days: Northern Guangdong Circuit
Day 1: Qingyuan city or Qingxin. Day 2: Yingxi Peak Forest; stay in Jiulong or Huanghua. Day 3: Lianzhou Underground River; stay in Lianzhou or Liannan. Day 4: Millennium Yao Village, Yangshan, or a direct return according to weather and road conditions.
In the rainy season, preselect an indoor or recovery substitute for every canyon, river, and mountain day.
Arrival and County-to-County Transport
High-speed rail, intercity services, coaches, and road transport link Qingyuan with the Pearl River Delta. Qingyuan Railway Station, Yingde West Railway Station, and the relevant county center are not the same as a scenic-area entrance. Add the final transfer before judging whether a train is convenient.
Qingcheng and Qingxin are manageable with buses, taxis, and ride-hailing. Yingxi Peak Forest, Lianzhou Underground River, Liannan, and Yangshan are usually easier by self-drive, licensed charter, or a verified scenic shuttle. Confirm pickup location, last return, road restrictions, parking, driver details, insurance, and cancellation in writing. Leave extra time at expressway exits during rafting season and public holidays.
Where to Sleep
- Qingcheng or Qingxin: best for restaurants, urban transport, rafting, hot springs, and a simple return.
- Near the selected rafting operator: useful after a late finish, but verify the actual distance, pickup, hot water, drying space, parking, noise, and refund terms.
- Jiulong or Huanghua in Yingde: protects an early or late Peak Forest day; confirm evening meals and how far the lodging is from the planned route.
- Lianzhou: practical for the underground river and city services.
- Liannan: worthwhile when Millennium Yao Village and a slower cultural visit are the priority.
One hotel change is usually enough for three days. Extra moves consume the time the route is supposed to protect.
Tickets, Budget, and Activity Checks
Build the budget from long-distance transport, county transfers or car costs, lodging, one major paid activity per day, meals, and a weather contingency. Combination tickets may mix rafting, waterfalls, glass platforms, slides, night shows, hot springs, or transport. Read the included items, entry window, health restrictions, insurance statement, weather suspension, and refund terms before paying.
The Qingyuan municipal scenic-area directory and the Gulong Gorge operator site were checked on 29 August 2026. The operator explicitly says current operation and on-site notices control rafting and other activity times. Recheck both the government directory and the exact operator shortly before travel.
Rafting, Caves, and Village Safety
For rafting, confirm the operating section, height and age limits, health exclusions, helmet and life-jacket fit, storage, changing facilities, insurance, rescue access, and the day's weather. Do not participate after drinking or when a medical condition, pregnancy, or operator rule makes it unsafe. Leave phones and loose valuables out of the water unless the operator provides an approved solution.
In caves, expect damp steps and cooler air. Walk slowly with children, older travelers, or anyone with knee problems; do not touch formations or use disruptive lighting. On glass platforms and high-altitude rides, follow wind-control and item-storage rules.
Millennium Yao Village is also a living community. Ask before photographing residents, ceremonies, homes, or craft work. Stay out of private buildings and farmland, and check the material, receipt, and after-sales terms for silverwork or embroidery.
Food and Local Purchases
Qingyuan chicken, Beijiang fish, Jiulong tofu, Lianzhou choy sum, Dongpi preserved meat, local rice snacks, Yingde black tea, Yangshan chestnuts, and Yao-style preserved foods are useful starting points. For river fish, confirm species, weight, unit price, preparation fee, and receipt before cooking. For packaged chicken, tea, preserved meat, or bamboo products, check origin, production date, storage, labeling, and invoice.
Bad-Weather Backup
Cancel rafting, canyon, riverside, cruise, and mountain plans during rainstorm, lightning, typhoon, flash-flood, or closure warnings. A safer substitute is a city meal and rest day, a currently open cave with safe road access, or a verified hot spring whose indoor facilities and health rules work for the group. Do not treat a larger river flow as a reason to enter a closed or unmanaged area.
Before the final return, check the expressway, station transfer, last driver pickup, and enough time to change clothes or collect luggage. Dropping one attraction is cheaper than missing the protected train or driving tired at night.
