Separate Guigang's urban area, Guiping and Pingnan before choosing stops; Guiping Xishan, Guangxi Longtan National Forest Park and the Jintian Uprising Site belong to the Guiping direction; Beidishan is a Pingnan day; Guigang proper supplies the rail, museum, lodging and Yujiang River base. Do not cross all three zones in one day: the county transfers displace the time needed at the actual sites.
Choosing the season
Spring, autumn and winter are generally easier for climbing and urban walks; summer is hot and wet, so long exposed walks should avoid the middle of the day. Thunderstorms, slippery stone, rockfall warnings and temporary closures affect Guiping Xishan, Longtan forest, Guangxi Pingtian Mountain National Forest Park and Beidishan.
The lotus bloom at Hemei Qintang is seasonal; temple events, festivals and museum exhibitions also have actual dates; a previous year's poster is not a timetable. During the flood season, do not use the reopening of a city road as proof that every county mountain road and scenic area is safe.
Three zones to plan separately
- Guigang and Qintang: Guigang Museum, Nanshan Scenic Area and the Yujiang waterfront make a gentle urban day. Hemei Qintang Scenic Area depends on the current lotus bloom, while Pingtian Mountain is a separate outdoor route.
- Guiping: Allow at least two days in total for Guiping Xishan Scenic Area, Guangxi Longtan National Forest Park Scenic Area and the Jintian Uprising Site Scenic Area of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.
- Pingnan: Beidishan Scenic Area offers mountain paths and gorge scenery for a traveller with suitable weather, fitness and a separate overnight plan.
Even within Guiping, Xishan and Longtan have different access directions and walking demands; do not add Jintian to both merely because the county name is the same.
An easy day in Guigang
Guigang Museum is a sensible first stop for local history and the Yujiang River corridor; use the museum's current reservation and exhibition information; Nanshan Scenic Area combines a hill setting with religious spaces. Dress and speak respectfully, follow photography rules and do not treat incense or offerings as a compulsory purchase.
The Yujiang waterfront can suit an evening walk, but boats, lighting activities and access to the water are not guaranteed daily; for lotus, give Qintang a separate seasonal outing only when current flower information justifies it. Treat Guangxi Pingtian Mountain National Forest Park as a full outdoor route, not an urban park added after lunch.
Guiping Xishan
Guiping Xishan combines hill paths, temples and a near-city landscape; select a walking range that matches the group before deciding whether any operating sightseeing transport is needed. Not every path, pavilion or temple is necessarily open at the same time; rain makes the stone steps slick, and busy religious dates can slow the descent.
Do not photograph a ceremony at close range or touch ritual objects and offerings; decline expensive incense, “blessing packages” or objects sold through fear. Tea and honey should be judged through labelling, quality and price, not through religious or medical promises.
Guangxi Longtan National Forest Park
Longtan is a forest-and-valley day in the Guiping direction; establish road conditions, open trails, scenic transport, weather and the latest exit plan before leaving town. Thunder, rising streams, rockfall warnings or very wet surfaces are reasons to shorten the route.
Remain on managed paths; do not enter a closed forest road, approach a fast stream, feed wildlife or collect plants. Carry water, rain protection and shoes with grip, while taking every disposable item back out; phone coverage and food supply may be weaker than in Guiping town.
The Jintian Uprising Site
The Jintian Uprising Site Scenic Area of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom is in Jintian Town, Guiping; it is a modern-history site rather than a quick photo stop. Allow half a day from a Guiping base and use the exhibition and interpretation available on the day.
Do not climb structures, touch protected material or use harsh lighting on displays; for a group lecture, study tour or car package, identify the organiser, insurance, content and refund conditions. Online historical entertainment is not a substitute for the site's documented interpretation.
Deciding whether to add Beidishan
Beidishan is in Dapeng Town, Pingnan County, not beside Guiping Xishan; its mountain paths, gorge scenery and road connection deserve a separate day and usually a Pingnan base. Visit only when the route is open, the forecast is stable and every traveller can manage the walking demand.
Never cross a barrier for a cliff photograph or follow a non-staff member onto an undeveloped shortcut; set the descent before dark and record the driver's waiting and return terms in advance.
Rail and road connections
Use Guigang Railway Station for Guigang and Qintang, Guiping Railway Station for Xishan, Longtan and Jintian, and Pingnan South Railway Station for Pingnan; none is within walking distance of every scenic entrance. Until China Railway 12306 or an official railway notice shows tickets for Guiping North as available for sale and travel, do not plan as though the station were operating.
Guigang does not have an operating commercial passenger airport; air travellers may connect through Nanning, Wuzhou or Yulin, depending on the origin and onward schedule; no single airport is always the closest in practical terms.
For county travel, use scheduled transport, scenic services or a licensed car; a charter agreement should state the vehicle, parking, waiting, cross-county charge, weather rerouting and cancellation. Do not board a station-side car whose driver will not give a destination and price.
Itinerary ideas
One urban day
Visit Guigang Museum or another open cultural site in the morning; after lunch and a rest, choose between Nanshan Scenic Area and the Yujiang waterfront according to the weather. Use the evening to confirm the next train or Guiping transfer, not to race to Longtan.
Two days in Guiping
Arrive in Guiping and give the first day to Xishan, then sleep in town; on day two, choose either Longtan National Forest Park or the Jintian Uprising Site. Longtan deserves the whole weather window; Jintian can leave room for a modest town walk before departure.
Four days across Guigang and Guiping
Spend day one in Guigang, move to Guiping for Xishan on day two, choose Longtan or Jintian on day three, and leave on day four; a Beidishan extension needs another Pingnan night and full day rather than a compressed Guiping schedule.
Where to stay
Central Guigang suits high-speed rail, urban sites and the Yujiang waterfront; Guiping town is the base for Xishan, Longtan and Jintian. Pingnan town, or accommodation with a clearly documented transfer, is the base for Beidishan; examine parking, breakfast, air conditioning, lift access, noise, luggage and cancellation as well as map distance.
Straight-line distance can conceal a river crossing, mountain road or a scenic entrance on the opposite side; if a hotel promises a ride, establish whether the return, waiting and weather change are included.
Food and local purchases
Rice noodles, bean-curd products, meat dishes and river fish appear in both Guigang and Guiping; for fish, establish the species, unit price, weighing and cooking charge, then ensure it is fully cooked. Do not buy or eat wildlife or unidentified “mountain products”; in hot weather, pay attention to refrigeration and the time prepared food has been sitting out.
For bean curd sheets, tea, honey or rice products, inspect the producer, ingredients, shelf life, storage, receipt and delivery responsibility; food should not be advertised as a cure for heat, dampness or disease.
Tickets, reservations and payment
Admission, sightseeing vehicles, cableways and other projects may be charged separately; their valid dates and weather-refund terms may also differ. Buy through the scenic area's public channel or a clearly authorised platform, and retain a screenshot of what is included, the entrance and the cancellation rule; temple offerings, guides, cars and study programmes should never be forced into a ticket.
Build the budget from rail or road travel, county transfers, lodging, scenic services, meals and a rain alternative; reject private claims of internal free entry or a back route available after an advance deposit.
Families and older travellers
Urban Guigang and a short Xishan route are easier to scale; Longtan and Beidishan need a more careful decision about stairs, toilets, water, transport and exit points. Keep one long walking section per day and use the hottest hours for lunch or indoor rest; children should not approach an unguarded river or stream edge.

Foreign-card acceptance and English service may be limited outside the city; download maps, keep a working payment alternative and save the accommodation's phone number before a forest or county transfer.
Flood, mountain and water safety
Do not enter deep forest during thunder, intense rain, flood warnings or fog; slow down on wet stone and leave a waterfront when the river rises. After floodwater recedes, wait for specific road and scenic-area recovery notices; visible normality in central Guigang says little about a damaged mountain road.
Observe photography, conservation and religious rules at temples and heritage sites; do not drive a mountain road late at night or place the final attraction against closing time on departure day.

- Match the railway station, county transfer, scenic entrance and final return.
- Review thunderstorm, flood, trail and reopening notices. Keep an indoor alternative ready.
