Choose one branch after the city, not all three
Wenzhou is a spread-out trip: Lucheng and the Ou River form the urban stop; Yandang Mountain is in Yueqing; Nanxi River and its villages lie around Yongjia; Dongtou is the coastal branch. For three days, use one day in the city and spend one or two nights in only one of Yandang, Nanxi or Dongtou. Five days can accommodate a second branch. A weekend that tries to collect mountain, river and islands is mostly a sequence of transfers.
Choose Yandang for cliffs and walking, Nanxi for river scenery and village lanes, or Dongtou for coast and fishing-community atmosphere. In town, Wuma Street and Gongyuan Road lead naturally to Nantang; Jiangxin Islet is a separate addition when its ferry is operating. Travelling with children or older relatives, compare steps, shade, toilets and the return trip before choosing the famous name.
Three- and five-day shapes
Day 1 — central Wenzhou. Walk Wuma Street and Gongyuan Road, use an open cultural venue or Jiangxin Islet, then finish by Nantang or the Ou River. Keep this day in the city rather than making a distant same-day return.
Days 2–3 — choose Yandang or Nanxi. At Yandang, stay around Xianglingtou or another base with confirmed transfers, then divide two or three of Lingfeng, Lingyan and Dalongqiu over the two days. At Nanxi, stay near Yantou, Fenglin or a useful Yongjia junction; use one day for Lishui Street, Furong Village and Cangpo Village, and another for the Shiziyan area and the river landscape. Rafting belongs only to a day when water level, weather and the operator all allow it.
Days 4–5 — add a second branch only when the first transfer and forecast work. Dongtou deserves an overnight. Distinguish road-accessible areas from islands needing a boat, and leave the final half-day free for wind, sea state, road disruption or the journey back. Do not leave an outer island for a long-distance train or flight connection.
Arrive at the base you actually need
Wenzhou South Railway Station is the main high-speed-rail gateway; Wenzhou Longwan International Airport serves the east. S1 links the Wenzhou South and airport corridors, while S2 serves the coast and parts of Yueqing and Rui'an. Check the current stations, interchanges and final services before selecting a hotel.
For Yandang, compare Yandangshan Railway Station with the formal scenic-area connection. For Nanxi, choose a rail or road gateway from the address of the Yantou, Fenglin or other base—not from a map of Wenzhou as a whole. County buses can be too infrequent for a late return. A charter should state licence, waiting time, tolls, parking and cancellation; two county-scale zones in one day are rarely a good trade.
Put the hotel inside the following day’s route
Lucheng or a central transit corridor works for old-city walks, food and the first or final night. A room by Wenzhou South is practical for an early train but not a substitute for the city. Xianglingtou or an established transfer base saves repeated approaches to Yandang. Yantou, Fenglin and similar Nanxi junctions should be chosen for the villages or landscape planned next, rather than for a generic river address.
In Dongtou, establish whether the property is road-accessible and whether dinner is available in the evening. Ask every rural stay about the real transfer to the entrance or station, breakfast, luggage storage, humidity control and cancellation during typhoon or closure. Check fire protection, sound insulation and vehicle access at village guesthouses. For coastal lodging, ask how high it sits above the shoreline and what its severe-weather procedures are. Two nights outside the city are usually better spent in one base than in two hotel changes.
Food that fits the route
In central Wenzhou, spread glutinous-rice breakfast, fish balls, dengzhan cake, pork-offal noodles and a fuller Ou-style meal across different stops. Around Nanxi and Yandang, a hot meal at the right time matters more than a restaurant name, so check guesthouse and town dining hours before a late walk. In Dongtou, agree on the seafood species, pricing unit, weight, cooking charge and total before it is prepared.
State seafood, fish-paste or peanut allergies early; a fish ball can include starch and other ingredients. In hot weather, skip raw marinated seafood, unrefrigerated cold dishes and cut fruit that has been standing out. Request an itemised market bill. Claims such as “wild” or “caught today” do not replace traceable sourcing.
Let water and weather shorten the plan
Dalongqiu and other waterfalls depend on recent rain. During typhoon, severe-thunderstorm or heavy-rain warnings, remove boats, stream activities and exposed high walks. After rain, read notices on rockfall, closures and flooded roads before leaving the base. Carry grippy shoes, rainwear, sun protection, water and allergy medication.
If Yandang closes, return to Wenzhou for an open museum, cultural venue or another established indoor space. If Nanxi water conditions are wrong, keep the villages and drop rafting. Strong wind in Dongtou is not a cue to hire a private boat. On a rainy city day, combine an open museum, sheltered old-street sections and food instead of crossing the municipality to rescue a checklist.
The day before each branch, reconfirm tickets, accommodation, the transfer, forecast and cancellation terms, and save the relevant confirmations. Treat the final bus or ferry as a poor last-resort plan, not as the only way home.
Make each branch a complete day
At Yandang Mountain, Lingfeng and Lingyan can share a walking day; leave Dalongqiu for the day with the better waterfall and road conditions. On the Nanxi River branch, combine Lishui Street with Furong and Cangpo villages, then give Shiziyan and the river landscape their own outing. These pairings are more useful than collecting every named stop.
In central Wenzhou, walk between Wuma Street and Gongyuan Road in the ordinary course of exploring the old city. Treat the boat trip to Jiangxin Islet as optional and separate it from a Nantang evening, since a timetable or weather change should not cut the city walk short. For Yandang, confirm the onward connection from Yandangshan Railway Station before choosing a hotel around Xianglingtou; for Nanxi, use Yantou or Fenglin only when it suits the next day's villages or river route. Lucheng District remains the compact city base; Yueqing City leads toward Yandang Mountain, Yongjia County toward Nanxi River, and Dongtou District toward the coast.
