Do not treat the three Yongchuan routes as stops on one easy loop. Tickets and mountain access at Chashan, rides and animal areas at Lehe Ledu, and waterside controls at Songji can change, so use current official or on-site information.
What Yongchuan Is For
West of Chongqing's urban core, Yongchuan works for a weekend with children, visitors interested in tea and bamboo landscapes, or travellers who want a slower old-town visit. Chashan Bamboo Sea is a natural and tea-culture route. Lehe Ledu is a rides-and-wildlife day. Songji Ancient Town is a historic-street and riverfront direction. A one-night Yongchuan stay should focus on one main route rather than trying to sample all three.
Season and Weather
Spring in Yongchuan is good for fresh tea greenery and seasonal flower activity. Summer at Chashan can feel cooler in bamboo but still brings humid heat and thunderstorms; autumn suits Songji walking; winter makes Yongchuan's mountain roads and Yangtze riverfront feel colder. During thunderstorms, strong wind or poor visibility around Chashan and Songji, cancel forest walking and prolonged waterside stays. Chashan slopes and Songji's stone steps and old-town paving are slippery after rain. Use Yongchuan Museum, a town meal or hotel rest as the fallback.
Chashan Bamboo Sea: Tea and Forest
Chashan Bamboo Sea suits visitors who want to walk slowly through tea and bamboo landscapes. Give it a half or full day and use only currently open viewing, tea-garden or walking areas. Choose depth by fitness, not by a promise to reach every named viewpoint. Film-location interpretation, tea-picking activities and transport follow the scenic area's current arrangements. Without a car or confirmed return vehicle, do not go deep on dispersed mountain roads late in the day. In fog or rain, shorten the visit or return another time.
Lehe Ledu: A Full Family Day
Lehe Ledu is the reliable choice for families or visitors who want rides and wildlife in one concentrated day. Keep the whole day for the park. Before paying, distinguish what the ticket actually covers: rides, animal sections, shows, vehicle zones or walking zones may have different rules. Height, age, health, feeding and performance requirements come from the operator. On busy dates, choose one core area first. A stroller, water, rain protection and a midday rest are more useful than forcing every attraction.
Songji Ancient Town: A Separate Southward Trip
Songji Ancient Town is an independent half- or full-day direction to the south, for lanes, ancestral-hall architecture and riverside space. It is not a quick stop on the way back from Chashan Bamboo Sea. Confirm the road, parking, bus or hired-car return in advance. Respect residential and heritage boundaries and do not enter closed courtyards. Stay only in open, signposted waterside areas; leave when water levels, wind, weather or daylight make the riverfront unsuitable.
The Town and Museum as a Buffer
Yongchuan Museum, town restaurants and commercial areas are useful for an arrival day, rainy weather or a cancelled remote plan. Check the museum's reservation and gallery notices. Use it as a genuine pacing buffer, not an extra box to tick. If you arrive late by rail, sleep in town, have noodles or a simple snack with Yongchuan douchi (fermented black beans), and choose one main direction the next day. That is usually more satisfying than a rushed transfer.
One- and Two-Day Plans
For a family day, spend the full day at Lehe Ledu and stay in town or near the park; do not add Chashan or Songji. For a nature day, visit Chashan Bamboo Sea in the morning and finish with a confirmed tea-related or town stop. For an old-town day, head to Songji early. Set the afternoon departure from the confirmed bus, hired-car pickup or self-drive return to Yongchuan town. Over two days, combine Lehe Ledu with Chashan. Add Songji only with another night, or replace one of the two.
Arrival and Transport
Yongchuan East station, the town and the three main directions have different transfer times. Check every leg before choosing rail tickets or a hotel. A car is more flexible for Chashan and Songji, but rainy nights and unfamiliar rural roads are poor places to compress the final drive. Public transport and ride-hailing coverage outside town should not be assumed. Settle the key return leg before departure, especially when travelling with children.
Where To Stay
Town-centre lodging is best for rail arrival, meals and changing plans. A hotel near Lehe Ledu suits consecutive family days. A Chashan guesthouse suits self-drivers whose focus is nature and who accept fewer evening services. Songji lodging is for travellers committed to a slow old-town stay who have planned luggage and next-day transport. Check parking, breakfast, noise, air conditioning and cancellation conditions before booking.
Food and Souvenirs
Yongchuan douchi (fermented black beans), Yongchuan xiuya tea, rice noodles, hotpot and Songji salted peanuts fit different parts of the route. Buy food with clear prices, intact packaging and readable labels. For douchi and tea, check product name, net weight, production information and storage; do not treat extravagant health claims as fact. Tell restaurants about chilli, peanuts, sesame or animal-fat sensitivities before ordering. Ask old-town stalls for the price and payment method first and keep useful receipts.
Final Checks and Safety
On departure day, check weather, roads, park opening, ride or animal-area rules, hotel cancellation and return transport. At Chashan follow trail boundaries; at Lehe Ledu follow height and animal-interaction rules; at Songji follow heritage and waterside signs. When one essential link is uncertain, switch to a town buffer day. Yongchuan is best when one direction has enough time to breathe.
Accessibility and Group Fit
Chashan Bamboo Sea involves slopes, steps and dispersed mountain access, so travellers with limited mobility should ask about the exact open route, vehicle access, toilets and rest points before committing. At Lehe Ledu, check stroller access, step-free routes, ride restrictions and the operating method for animal areas rather than assuming one ticket creates the same day for every age group. Songji's stone lanes and riverside edges can be tiring or slippery; keep the walk compact for older visitors and young children.
Groups should agree on one meeting point, a latest departure time and who holds the return details. Carry only what the chosen route needs: sun and rain protection for Chashan, child supplies and a midday rest plan for Lehe Ledu, or supportive footwear for Songji. These decisions improve the day without adding another attraction.
