Travelling to Zhagana (扎尕那) from Xiahe or Langmusi involves more than buying admission. The entrance on your reservation, the driver's drop-off point and your guesthouse pickup location need to agree. This guide helps you coordinate those arrangements; use the Gannan travel guide for the wider circuit and sightseeing choices.
1. Confirm Four Locations Before Comparing Prices
Send the same details to your transport provider and accommodation:

A cheaper quote may exclude a connection you need. Save locations for communication, but follow current traffic arrangements rather than treating a map pin as permission to drive to it.
2. Read the Reservation Rules as Dated Instructions
The official reservation notice covers May 1–October 7, 2026. It describes named bookings and entrance selection; its July 15–October 7 arrangement specifies booking three days ahead. It also recommends arrival at the north entrance before 18:00. A late time printed in a ticket-slot range is not proof of late-night road access or transport service.
Use the WeChat account identified in that notice, “扎尕那大景区”, to check the current booking process. Do not carry its advance-booking interval into dates after October 7 without checking a new notice. Reconfirm requirements when changing dates, vehicles or entrances.
If the booking form does not accept your identity document, or the vehicle details are not yet available, ask the official visitor channel how to proceed. Do not enter invented details or someone else's identity. This guide has not verified online acceptance of every document type, live availability or current prices.
3. An Entrance Is Part of the Transport Plan
Ask the driver which approach and drop-off point the quote covers before choosing an entrance. Resolve any disagreement between the driver, scenic-area staff and your accommodation before travelling.
Do not treat a journey using the Jiangdie section of G248 as interchangeable with a separately confirmed arrival plan. A 2025 joint road notice imposed restrictions on certain vehicle categories over a specified section and warned of difficult mountain conditions. Its restriction period depends on road upgrading. This guide has not established whether those restrictions have since changed.
Check the exact road section and vehicle, not simply whether the “Rock Road” is open. Without clear access information, suitable conditions and an appropriately experienced driver, do not use that road to salvage a reservation made for the wrong entrance. Any alternative approach needs its own current checks.
4. Without a Car: Separate the Intercity Journey from the Final Transfer
First establish which transport services can actually be booked for your date. This guide has not verified a dependable year-round daily direct coach from either Xiahe or Langmusi, so it does not supply an old timetable or promise a departure on arrival at the station.
For a coach-and-transfer combination or a licensed charter, confirm:
- Full pickup and drop-off names, and who arranges any second vehicle.
- Luggage capacity, any child-seat needs, and exactly which journey segments the price includes.
- Contact arrangements if the first vehicle is late.
- Whether onward transport is included or separately booked, and cancellation conditions if a connection fails.
For example, a booking ending in Diebu county town does not automatically include transport to the scenic area or from its entrance to a guesthouse. This is an example of checking a service boundary, not a claim that everyone must change vehicles in Diebu. Avoid committing to a non-refundable village room while its final connection remains uncertain.
5. Driving or Hiring a Vehicle
Give the driver the confirmed entrance, accommodation location and permitted parking point. For a charter, establish the operator and vehicle details, waiting arrangements, driver accommodation, rerouting and cancellation terms. For a rental car, ask the property whether parking is genuinely provided and check separate scenic-area vehicle arrangements.
If a guesthouse offers pickup, clarify where it collects you, the applicable timing, luggage handling and additional charges. A room confirmation is not admission confirmation or permission to drive into a managed area.
When arrival no longer fits the confirmed arrangements, contact the relevant providers about changes. Do not make a late mountain drive simply to fulfil a booking.
6. Choose Accommodation Around the Next Journey
A village stay can make sense if you want an early or late village walk and have confirmed access. Ask about the route between the room and pickup or parking point, steps, luggage assistance, heating, hot water, late check-in and cancellation. A panoramic photograph does not establish door-to-door vehicle access.
Consider a county-town stay when arrival arrangements are unsettled or your next transport leaves from there. It is not necessarily cheaper or more comfortable. Include the next day's scenic-area transfer and reservation in the comparison, or the choice may introduce an unwanted return journey.
For children, older companions or anyone with limited mobility, confirm actual walking surfaces and steps. Nearby is not the same as accessible. An April 2026 official project report announced the start of cableway and sightseeing-rail construction. That is not an operating announcement; do not rely on either as an available mobility aid without current service confirmation.
7. Respond to the Right Kind of Disruption
No suitable reservation: Change the date or remove the Zhagana visit, then coordinate transport and room changes. Another entrance, a guesthouse assurance or the hope of buying on arrival is not official confirmation.
A missed connection without a road or weather emergency: Remain at a confirmed transport and accommodation base while establishing the next workable arrangement. Dropping sightseeing is preferable to stacking several non-refundable replacement bookings.
Traffic restrictions, dangerous weather or illness: Prioritise safety, follow traffic and emergency instructions and obtain medical help when needed. Do not remain on a hazardous road to wait for a driver or protect a room payment. Available tickets elsewhere do not establish that the route there is safe.
