Understand the distances before booking
Fuyang is not one compact cluster of attractions. Fuyang's urban districts, Balihe in Yingshang County, Jieshou City and Taihe County point in different directions. A sensible first trip combines the city with Balihe. Jieshou pottery and a Taihe food stop belong to later, interest-led extensions rather than a rushed two-day checklist.
With one day, stay in central Fuyang. With two, add a dedicated outing to Balihe. Three or more days allow one additional excursion to Jieshou or Taihe. Spring and autumn are generally comfortable; summers are humid with thunderstorms, while winter winds can be sharp beside open water. Check current notices for Yingzhou West Lake and Balihe when heavy rain, water-level changes or maintenance may affect access.
Choose between four areas
Central Fuyang
Yingzhou West Lake lies west of the urban core and has historical associations with figures including Ouyang Xiu and Su Shi. It is not a branch of Hangzhou's West Lake, nor should it be presented as an intact Song-dynasty landscape. Treat it as a half-day urban lake visit and verify the currently open areas, boat operations and transport.
Fuyang Museum and other city cultural venues can fill a rainy afternoon, but their current booking and opening arrangements need a fresh check. There is no need to collect every park or shopping district on a short stay.
Balihe in Yingshang County
Balihe Tourism Area is in Balihe Town, Yingshang County, not in central Fuyang and not part of Yingzhou West Lake. Its scale makes it most suitable for families, older travellers and visitors who enjoy landscaped grounds and water scenery. Walking routes, boats, internal transport, animal displays, night performances and other paid activities may have separate tickets or operating conditions.
Give Balihe most of a day. Confirm the admission product, identification requirement, weather-related suspensions and return transfer before setting out.
Jieshou City
Jieshou painted pottery firing is an officially recognised craft tradition, not a single attraction. Anyone making a special trip should first identify a currently open museum, exhibition, or workshop and verify its admission, reservation method, and open galleries. Do not infer current public access from a trial-operation or construction report.
Commercial pottery workshops are not automatically museum programmes. Ask what the fee includes, whether firing is included and how finished pieces are collected or shipped.
Taihe County
Taihe works better as a food, family or onward-travel stop than as an obligatory first-visit excursion. Include it only after checking the journey out, local transport and return connections. Visiting another county merely to increase the place count rarely improves a short Fuyang trip.
A practical two-day itinerary
Day one: the urban area
After arrival, leave luggage at the hotel and choose one cultural venue in the morning or early afternoon. Visit Yingzhou West Lake later in the day rather than during the hottest hours. In the evening, return to a central district for dinner and reconfirm the next day's Yingshang transfer, Balihe admission and railway buffer.
Day two: Balihe as a single excursion
Leave early for Yingshang County. Select sections that match the group's stamina instead of trying to traverse every corner. Families and older visitors should check rest areas, toilets and internal transport. On the return, do not connect the last possible county transfer to a long-distance train with no margin for traffic or queues.
Rail, air and county transfers
Fuyang West is the principal high-speed railway station, while Fuyang railway station handles conventional and some other passenger services. Check the station name on the ticket. Fuyang Airport is operating, but routes, dates and timings change; use the airport and airline rather than an old route list.
For Yingshang, Jieshou or Taihe, compare current rail services, intercity coaches and licensed car-hailing. Do not assume an online private-car quote, construction report, or scenic-area shuttle timetable represents an operating travel-date service.
Where to stay
- Near Fuyang West: convenient for late arrival, early departure and high-speed rail.
- A central commercial district: the most balanced base for food, city transport and a first visit.
- Near Yingzhou West Lake: useful for an early or evening walk, though not always best for county transfers.
- Yingshang town or Balihe: worthwhile only for a deliberately slower scenic-area stay without a tight same-day return.
Budget and Booking Order
Separate the budget into intercity travel, urban transport, a same-day Yingshang return or overnight, Balihe admission and internal transport, food, a Jieshou or Taihe extension, and a weather reserve. Secure refundable departure travel and the right accommodation base first. Confirm Balihe's current product and the return to Fuyang next. Pay for a Jieshou pottery activity or Taihe stop only when admission, collection or shipping, and onward transport are all clear. Even a free museum needs budget and time for reservations, storage, interpretation, and transfers.
Food and purchases
Fuyang's wheat noodles, juanmo wraps, gela noodles, and home-style dishes can be substantial. Ask about portion size, spice, peanuts, sesame, and animal fat when relevant. Around transport hubs and scenic areas, read the menu and price before ordering.
For pottery, produce or cooked foods, confirm material, origin, use-by date, packing and liability for shipping damage. Be wary of health or therapeutic claims attached to ordinary foods and souvenirs.
Families, older visitors and accessibility
Balihe's broad grounds do not mean every path or attraction is equally easy with a wheelchair or pushchair. Ask about accessible entrances, internal transport, toilets and rest points. Around Yingzhou West Lake and other waterside spaces, supervise children closely and stay behind barriers, particularly in thunderstorms, high winds or poor visibility.
Reservations and changing information
Museums, Balihe and craft programmes use different reservation channels. Free admission does not necessarily mean walk-in access, and it does not include transport, guides or hands-on activities. Holiday crowd controls, traffic plans and temporary event closures should be checked at least a day before the visit.
Safety essentials
Avoid county excursions that depend on the final bus or train. Do not enter water or cross waterside barriers. Protect against summer heat and thunderstorms and against slippery paths in cold or wet weather. Follow staff instructions around kilns, pigments and workshop tools. Product claims about disease treatment or health benefits should never substitute for professional medical advice.
Evidence Boundary and Common Mistakes

The Balihe operator website is only a channel for checking current admission, opening, and activities. Neither source proves that an old coach, boat, performance, internal transport, or craft programme operates on the travel date.
Common mistakes are treating Yingzhou West Lake and Balihe as one lake zone, confusing Fuyang railway station with Fuyang West, assuming Jieshou pottery is one always-available walk-in activity, and connecting the end of Balihe directly to a final service. A county day needs its own destination, product inclusions, return node, and bad-weather alternative.
