Yingtan's main journey is Longhu Mountain, but Longhu Mountain is a multi-zone scenic area rather than one attraction beside a gate. Luxi River rafts, the Xianshuiyan cliff-tomb landscape, Elephant Trunk Hill paths, Shangqing Ancient Town and the Celestial Masters Mansion occupy different parts of the route. Within Longhu Mountain Scenic Area, sightseeing buses, Luxi River levels and performance schedules can change the order. First-time visitors should give the landscape and Shangqing cultural sections separate days.

Destination at a glance

Central Yingtan provides high-speed rail access, hotels and restaurants. The Longhu Mountain Visitor Center organizes entry into the scenic transport system. Xianshuiyan and the Luxi River combine waterside Danxia scenery, cliff-tomb history and any officially operating raft trip. Elephant Trunk Hill and other marked paths are the walking choices. Shangqing Ancient Town, the Celestial Masters Mansion and the Dashangqing Palace direction carry the strongest Taoist context. At Xianshuiyan, a hanging-coffin or coffin-raising show is a scheduled performance, not a natural event that every visitor will see.

Who should go and how long to stay

Two days is the right first visit: one for river and Danxia scenery, one for Shangqing Ancient Town and the Celestial Masters Mansion. With one day, choose between the Luxi River raft sector and a longer Elephant Trunk Hill walk according to operations, fitness and weather, then decide whether Shangqing is realistic. Travelers interested in Taoist history and architecture should protect more time for Shangqing. Families at Longhu Mountain can use sightseeing buses and shorter Xianshuiyan walks, subject to the rules for rafts and waterside areas. Older visitors on Elephant Trunk Hill or the Shangqing route should minimize repeated steps and confirm the Longhu Mountain return transport.

When to go

Spring and autumn are comfortable for Danxia walks and the ancient town, although rain can still leave stone and red-sandstone surfaces slick. Summer is green but hot, with thunderstorms and changing Luxi River levels that may affect rafts, boats or waterside paths. At Longhu Mountain, start early and keep the Celestial Masters Mansion as a cultural alternative. Winter at Longhu Mountain is quieter and can feel damp and cold; Luxi River and performance services may run less frequently. For every Longhu Mountain visit, check the current sightseeing bus and Luxi River program before departure and again at the visitor center.

What to prioritize

For landscape, choose Xianshuiyan, the Luxi River and an officially operating raft. For hiking, choose Elephant Trunk Hill or another path recommended as open that day. For culture, keep Shangqing Ancient Town, the Celestial Masters Mansion and related Taoist buildings together. The Xianshuiyan cliff tombs become more meaningful with Longhu Mountain interpretation rather than a wait for a show. Shangqing Ancient Town is not merely a commercial street; the Celestial Masters Mansion, religious spaces and residents deserve respect. A long walk, a raft, a performance and Shangqing rarely fit one day once queues and internal transfers are counted.

A workable itinerary

On day one, start at the Longhu Mountain Visitor Center and follow the day's transport arrangement to Xianshuiyan, the Luxi River and the cliff-tomb sector. Use a raft only if it is operating; otherwise substitute an open Danxia path or exhibition. Stay near the visitor center or return to central Yingtan. On day two, travel to Shangqing Ancient Town and take time at the Celestial Masters Mansion and other open Taoist sites before using a confirmed return service. A one-day trip should choose either Xianshuiyan with the raft or an Elephant Trunk Hill walk with a limited cultural stop. Do not make an unconfirmed Longhu Mountain performance time the anchor for the day.

Transport inside and outside the scenic area

Yingtan North Railway Station is the high-speed rail gateway, while Yingtan Railway Station serves the traditional urban area. Confirm whether the driver is meeting you at Yingtan North Railway Station or Yingtan Railway Station. From the city, compare the current tourist shuttle, bus, taxi or hired car to the Longhu Mountain Visitor Center. Access from Longhu Mountain Visitor Center to Shangqing Ancient Town still depends on that day's internal transport. At Shangqing Ancient Town, park only in approved areas and do not drive into narrow streets or Longhu Mountain service roads. A raft landing, sightseeing-bus stop and Shangqing return point may be different, so read the map and ask about the final return before starting.

Where to stay

Central Yingtan suits late arrivals, early trains, restaurants and luggage storage. Reaching Longhu Mountain Visitor Center requires a separate transfer. Accommodation near the visitor center helps with an early start and a two-day scenic visit, but the connection to Shangqing still needs checking. A Shangqing Ancient Town stay favors deeper cultural time, though evening food, transport and room choice may be limited. For a Longhu Mountain hotel, check the actual map location, parking, pickup, hot water, dampness, noise and cancellation terms. A listing described as “inside Longhu Mountain Scenic Area” may still be far from Xianshuiyan, Shangqing or the useful bus stop.

Food and shopping

Rice noodles, Jiangxi stir-fries, tofu and properly sourced fish are common practical choices around Yingtan and Longhu Mountain. At a Yingtan restaurant, ask about chili level, portion size, prices and allergens. Fish served near Luxi River or Shangqing Ancient Town should be fully cooked and come from a legitimate supplier. Shangqing pastries, tea, farm products and Taoist-themed cultural goods are better bought in modest quantities after checking materials, production labels, receipts and after-sales terms. At Shangqing Ancient Town, incense, ritual objects and Taoist merchandise should never be sold with medical, guaranteed-luck or other absolute promises.

Booking and final checks

Confirm the Longhu Mountain admission product, sightseeing buses, rafts or boats, performances, Shangqing transport and interpretation as separate components. For Longhu Mountain products, learn whether sightseeing buses, Luxi River rafts and performances are bundled or can be canceled by water levels. Pay through Longhu Mountain Scenic Area's official or authorized channels and retain identification requirements, meeting points and refund terms. Holiday visitors to Longhu Mountain and Shangqing Ancient Town should check capacity, parking and shuttle controls. A Yingtan-to-Longhu Mountain driver agreement needs waiting and return details. A Taoist event at the Celestial Masters Mansion may temporarily change access, and current Shangqing management takes precedence over a static guide.

Safety and respectful travel

Join only the officially operated Luxi River raft or boat service and wear the required life jacket. Never enter the Luxi River independently. On Elephant Trunk Hill and Xianshuiyan, Danxia steps and viewpoints become slippery after rain; stay behind barriers and leave high ground during thunderstorms. Keep quiet and dress respectfully in the Celestial Masters Mansion and other Taoist spaces. At the Celestial Masters Mansion, ask before photographing Taoist rituals, worshippers or sacred objects. Do not block homes in Shangqing Ancient Town or touch heritage objects. Arrange the Shangqing-to-Yingtan return before evening and avoid unfamiliar Guixi rural roads after dark.
