Understand the three main directions

Bazhong's forests, caves, old towns and revolutionary-history sites are spread across different counties. Guangwu Mountain and Micang Mountain are in the Nanjiang direction. Nuoshui River and the Red Army Martyrs Cemetery at Wangping belong to the Tongjiang direction. Enyang Ancient Town is much closer to Bazhong city. The roads between Bazhong City, Nanjiang County and Tongjiang County are not normal urban transfers. With three days, choose either "Bazhong and Enyang plus Nanjiang" or "Bazhong and Enyang plus Tongjiang." Covering both Nanjiang and Tongjiang needs more time and dependable transport.

Who it suits and how long to stay

When to go

At Nuoshui River and Enyang Ancient Town, spring rain makes cave entrances and stone lanes slippery. Around Nuoshui River Scenic Area, summer rain increases the risk of swollen water, rockfall and temporary cave closures. Autumn brings the largest crowds to Guangwu Mountain and Micang Mountain. Across Guangwu Mountain and Micang Mountain, leaf color varies with temperature, rain and elevation, so read daily updates and allow shuttle time. On Nanjiang County mountain roads, winter can bring ice; confirm heating and hot water near Guangwu Mountain. Check separate forecasts for Bazhong city, Nanjiang and Tongjiang.

The main choices

A workable three- or four-day plan

Day one: Bazhong city and Enyang. Leave luggage first, then spend the afternoon around Enyang's old lanes, wharf and any open exhibitions. Return to Bazhong or stay in Enyang. At Enyang Wharf and Qifeng Bridge, shorten the riverside walk in heavy rain.

Days two and three: choose Nanjiang or Tongjiang. On the Nanjiang route, give Guangwu Mountain and Micang Mountain one day each, staying in Nanjiang or near the relevant gate. On the Tongjiang route, use one day for Nuoshui River and another half or full day for Wangping. Do not connect Nanjiang County and Tongjiang County by a late-night drive.

Day four: return to Bazhong City. Travel back from Nanjiang or Tongjiang and add the Sichuan-Shaanxi Revolutionary Base Museum or a relaxed Bazhong meal before departure. On a three-day Bazhong trip, remove Guangwu Mountain, Micang Mountain or Nuoshui River rather than compressing mountain roads and the final transfer.

Arrival and county transport

Read the complete station name when booking rail travel, including the distinction between Bazhong East and other Bazhong stations, and compare it with your hotel. Nanjiang, Guangwu Mountain, Tongjiang and Nuoshui River all require an onward county transfer. Between Bazhong East Railway Station, Nanjiang County and Tongjiang County, coach schedules, scenic shuttles and usable gates can change by season. On roads to Guangwu Mountain or Nuoshui River, drive in daylight and slow down in rain or fog. A Bazhong charter to Nanjiang or Tongjiang should state the vehicle, insurance, daily mileage, waiting, parking and rerouting terms. At Guangwu Mountain during foliage season, do not place a fixed train from Bazhong East immediately after the last scenic shuttle.

Where to stay

What to eat

Local choices may include Nanjiang yellow goat, Tongjiang tremella, cured pork, northern Sichuan cold noodles, wheat noodles and mountain home cooking. At Nanjiang restaurants serving yellow goat, ask about the cut, portion and pricing method. Tongjiang tremella desserts can often be ordered with less sugar. When buying Tongjiang tremella, Bazhong tea or Nanjiang cured meat, check origin, ingredients, production information and storage instructions. Do not leave Tongjiang tremella desserts or Nanjiang meat products unpackaged in a warm vehicle. At Bazhong restaurants, explain allergies and low-sugar or low-salt needs before ordering.

Tickets, shuttles and paid services

Tickets, reservations, open gates, scenic shuttles and performances at Guangwu Mountain, Micang Mountain, Nuoshui River, Enyang and memorial sites can change. Use official notices from Guangwu Mountain, Micang Mountain, Nuoshui River and Bazhong culture-and-tourism authorities close to the visit. For Guangwu Mountain foliage season, keep cancellation flexibility and reject sellers offering a closed gate, unofficial trail or queue bypass. At Nuoshui River, confirm whether the cave fee includes a guide, required equipment and the return segment. Across Nanjiang County and Tongjiang County, keep written prices and receipts for charters, guesthouses and farm products.

Safety and the final check

At Nuoshui River, do not enter a gorge during a storm or geological-hazard alert; at Guangwu Mountain, never stop on a closed road for foliage or clouds. In Nuoshui River caves, wear grippy shoes, remain with the open route and avoid touching formations or entering side passages. At Wangping Red Army Martyrs Cemetery, keep quiet and avoid entertainment-style posing. Before leaving Bazhong, check weather for Nanjiang or Tongjiang, the correct Guangwu, Micang or Nuoshui gate, shuttles, lodging and return route. Mark one of Guangwu Mountain, Micang Mountain or Nuoshui River as optional so congestion or a road change can be absorbed safely.

Who is this destination best suited to, and how long should visitors stay?

Forest and autumn-color travelers: Give Guangwu Mountain and Micang Mountain two or three days. For Guangwu Mountain and Micang Mountain, follow current foliage reports, entrances and scenic transport rather than assuming one peak date. Cave and geology travelers: Nuoshui River needs a full day, with attention to cave openings, lighting, underground-river levels and canyon roads. Revolutionary-history travelers: The Wangping memorial route in Tongjiang calls for quiet behavior and interpretation grounded in the formal exhibitions. For families visiting Bazhong and Enyang, three days is a comfortable minimum. Use Bazhong city and Enyang as the first-day buffer, then choose only one remote county route.
