Bamboo-raft routes, piers, performances, cycling roads and outdoor activities can change with water, weather, maintenance and operations. Check the current notices from the Yulong River scenic area, the relevant Li River operator and any performance or outdoor provider separately. Do not turn an old pier, timetable, quoted duration or business list into a booking assumption.
Choose One Main Branch
Do not compress Yangshuo town, the Yulong River, the Ten-Mile Gallery and Xingping into one day. A relaxed first visit uses the town and Yulong River as its core. A landscape or photography trip gives Xingping its own day. Climbing, a long ride or a deeper village route needs another day and a qualified operator. Travellers uneasy around water or with limited walking ability should favour road-access viewpoints and the town.
A Practical Three-Day Plan
Day 1: Yangshuo town. Check in, learn the transport layout and use West Street for one meal or one evening walk. Do not stack bars, a performance and an early next-morning activity.
Day 2: Yulong River or the Ten-Mile Gallery. For a raft, secure a currently sold official route and its endpoints before adding a short ride in the same direction. Without a raft, choose one Ten-Mile Gallery or village cycling segment. Shorten the day for thunder, rising water, heat or fatigue.
Day 3: Xingping and the Li River direction. Combine Xingping old town, a confirmed operating Li River product and road-access viewpoints. Confirm the return to Yangshuo, Guilin or the rail station before waiting for sunset. Do not add a remote photography point on the departure day.
Choosing a Yulong River Raft
Yulong River products can differ in endpoints, duration, weirs, passenger conditions and ticketing. Select only a route shown as currently available by the scenic area's official channel. Check the pier, one-way or return format, child and companion rules, luggage, cancellation and suspension handling. A raft may finish away from its starting pier, so solve the onward transfer before paying.
Do not use an unregulated substitute when the operator suspends rafting for rain, thunder, high water or wind. Wear the required lifesaving equipment, follow pier and boatman instructions, and do not stand, play around or carry unprotected valuables.
Cycle One Manageable Segment
A first-time rider can choose a level, reversible segment from town, the Ten-Mile Gallery or the Yulong River area. A Xingping return, remote village road or raft-and-cycle combination requires confirmed roads, bicycle condition, supplies, weather and return. Check brakes, tyres, lights, lock and helmet and photograph the bicycle and rental terms.
Avoid dense coach traffic, construction, standing water and unlit roads. Turn back if navigation leads into a narrow village lane, closed area, field, private property, pier work zone or unopened riverbank.
Xingping and the Li River
Xingping works for the old town, river landscape and karst scenery and does not need the Yulong River on the same day. Li River cruises, rafts and other water products can have different operators and endpoints. Confirm boarding, disembarkation and the return for the exact product. Weather, water, works and site management affect viewpoints; never cross a barrier or stand in traffic for a photograph.
Climbing Boundaries
Book climbing only through an operator that can explain instructor qualifications, insurance, equipment checks, legal access, weather cancellation and rescue. Disclose relevant age, injury history and ability and let the instructor choose the route. Do not enter a crag from an online grade, photo or borrowed track. Cancel after rain or for thunder, heat, falling-rock risk or failed equipment checks.
Where to Stay
Town suits a first visit, food, evening walking and transfers. Yulong River or Ten-Mile Gallery lodging suits an early rural start but requires confirmed night transport, meals and luggage transfer. Xingping lodging makes sense only when the Li River branch is a separate day. Check the actual entrance, noise, stairs, air conditioning, breakfast, parking, cancellation and access in heavy rain.
Build the Budget by Product
Separate arrival transport, lodging, local transfers, a Yulong or Li River product, bicycle rental, a performance or climbing, meals and a weather-change reserve. Pay for arrival transport and cancellable lodging first, then a date-specific official water product with limited capacity. Leave bicycle rental, meals and replaceable nightlife until later. A single per-person total can hide one-way transfers, luggage movement and suspension losses.
Food and Nightlife
Choose beer fish, rice noodles, stuffed dishes and local cooking from operating, clearly priced businesses rather than a fixed restaurant list. For fish, establish species, weight, pricing unit, method and sides. A serious allergy requires direct questions about stock, sauces and shared equipment.
Choose one West Street nightlife venue and confirm minimum spend, bundle, performance or seating charges and cancellation before ordering. Do not cycle, enter water or climb after drinking; use licensed transport and finish early before a morning raft or long transfer.
Rain and Suspension Alternatives
When water products stop, do not wait at the pier for an uncertain reopening. Use a meal, short cultural stop or rest in town. Cancel cycling, climbing and river-edge photography after persistent rain, and reduce outdoor time to mornings and evenings in heat. No substitute should endanger the day's confirmed return.
Before Leaving Yangshuo
The night before departure, confirm the pickup, ticket channel, luggage time and boarding point for Guilin, the airport or the rail station. Keep the last half-day close to town or the lodging and easy to exit. Do not travel directly from Xingping, a remote village road or a water activity to a fixed departure. Retain transport, lodging and water-product orders and cancellation terms.
